Monthly Power of Attorney Clinic
Tuesday 24th May saw the firm’s monthly Carers’ Power of Attorney Clinic taking place at the Carers of West Lothian offices in Livingston Village.
Clients and their families took the opportunity to meet one-to-one with Jo-anne Tinto, a solicitor in the firm’s Private Client department, to discuss the benefits of putting a Power of Attorney in place.
Jo-anne Tinto explained that “finding the time to meet with a solicitor is often difficult for clients, especially when carers have so many other demands on their time. However, it is really important for clients to consider their future plans and who they might like to make financial or welfare decisions for them if they lost the capacity to do so for themselves, possibly due to a sudden illness or accident. Meeting with clients in the familiar surroundings of the Carers of West Lothian offices makes it much easier for clients to arrange Powers of Attorney as we bring the services of a solicitor to clients in a more relaxed environment. It also means that clients are protected if the worst was to happen”.
And clients certainly seem to agree – after a busy day of individual client meetings, Jo-anne Tinto has instructions to prepare 11 new Powers of Attorney. Once clients have reviewed their tailored Powers of Attorney at home, they will return to Carers of West Lothian in a few weeks’ time to meet with Jo-anne to sign and complete the documents.
