19th State of the City Economy Conference
Glasgow is the fastest growing major city economy in the UK and the aim is to make Glasgow the most productive major city economy in the UK.
At the recent annual City Economy Conference, city leaders outlined Glasgow’s commitment to eight key sectors: digital technology; finance and business services; creative industries; low carbon; health and life sciences; engineering, design and advanced manufacturing; tourism and higher/further education.

Glasgow’s new high-growth innovation hub at the Tontine Building at Glasgow Cross was highlighted at the Conference and described as the heart of the City Centre Innovation District along with the Technology and Innovation Centre and the Inovo Building. Glasgow City Council Leader Frank McAveety confirmed that the Tontine Building will support 153 companies over the next five years and the city will integrate economic development activity with all organisations working in partnership towards a common objective of increasing productivity.
