Dying Matters!

4th May 2016

Given the nature of their business the firm’s Private Client team is acutely aware of the importance of talking about dying and planning for the inevitable.  However, conversations around this topic continue to be taboo whether it is thought to be morbid, superstitious or just plain upsetting. Talking about dying will not make it happen!  It will empower us all to think about the future and to share our thoughts, wishes and views with our loved ones.

Next week (from Monday 9th May) the team is supporting Dying Matters Awareness Week 2016 ( by encouraging as many people as possible to start the #BigConversation.

To get that conversation started, we are offering 50% off the preparation of an Advance Directive (commonly referred to as a Living Will) throughout May.

An Advance Directive is wholly separate from your Will or Power of Attorney and enables you to record your wishes in relation to end of life care.  Whilst not legally binding in Scotland, an Advance Directive provides very persuasive evidence of your wishes to a medical team when contemplating end of life treatment plans or paths and relieves your family of the burden of such decisions.

To take advantage of the offer contact a member of the Private Client team quoting Big Conversation by 31 May and follow us on social media next week for some inspiration – #BigConversation.

In addition to Advance Directives, the Private Client team deals with Wills, Powers of Attorney, guardianship applications, adults with incapacity, trusts and tax planning.  If you would like any more information, please contact Nicola Gibson
